When to Replace a Phone Screen?
A screen replacement is necessary if the front glass is shattered, the touch sensor fails to react, the screen flickers, shows vertical or horizontal lines, develops black ink spots, has a green glow, or displays no image at all after a physical impact.
For the vast majority of modern phones, the entire screen assembly (glass, touch digitizer, and OLED/LCD panel) must be replaced as a single module. Replacing only the outer glass requires specialized display-bonding machines and is not always viable or cost-effective for mid-range models.
Quality of Screen Parts Matters
The final cost of the repair depends on the phone model and the quality tier of the replacement screen. For many brands, there are multiple options available: original service packs, high-quality aftermarket OLEDs, or cheaper LCD replacements.
I always outline the available screen quality options and explain which option makes sense relative to the age and value of the device.
What Does the Screen Service Include?

- assessing the extent of casing and frame damage,
- finding and quoting the replacement screen module options,
- disassembling the phone and removing the damaged display assembly,
- installing the new display module with high-quality adhesives,
- testing touch sensitivity, colour output, and brightness,
- notifying the owner of any hidden liquid damage or motherboard bends.
Screen Failure After a Heavy Drop or Liquid exposure
If a phone dropped from a significant height or got wet, a broken screen might not be the only issue. Motherboard cracks, torn connectors, damaged flex cables, bent frames, or failing cameras can also be present. In these situations, I check the device first to ensure that a screen replacement is sensible.
Please note that liquid-exposed phones cannot carry a long-term repair warranty, even if the new screen works perfectly after cleaning.
