Fingerprint Sensor Calibration After Screen Replacement
Did your under-display fingerprint sensor stop responding, fail to enroll new fingerprints, or show an error after screen replacement? At MAdKuM in Warsaw Rembertow, I offer optical sensor recalibration using specialized service targets. Available by appointment after confirming model compatibility.

When Might Calibration Be Needed?
Under-display optical fingerprint sensor (FOD) calibration may be required in the following situations:
- inability to register a new fingerprint after display module replacement,
- error message or enrollment failure prompt when trying to add a fingerprint,
- sluggish, unreliable, or intermittent fingerprint recognition,
- sensor is detected by the operating system but fails to capture prints through the new panel,
- phone had a DIY screen repair, third-party service, or was bought second-hand with a replaced screen.
Why Can the Fingerprint Sensor Fail After Screen Replacement?
An optical fingerprint reader under the display captures finger image data through the layers of the screen using a dedicated sensor array. When a screen is replaced, optical characteristics, light transmittance, and optical focal distance change.
In many smartphone models, the firmware requires an optical recalibration routine using service targets to adjust sensor exposure and optical read parameters to the new panel.
What Does the Calibration Service Include?
- verifying sensor detection in diagnostic software,
- basic sensor functionality checks prior to calibration,
- assessing whether the symptom indicates missing optical calibration,
- running the optical calibration routine for supported models using dedicated calibration targets,
- attempting new fingerprint enrollment in system settings,
- testing recognition repeatability and speed after calibration.
Important: The standard calibration procedure is performed without disassembling the phone.
When Will Calibration Alone Not Solve the Problem?
Calibration cannot fix issues caused by physical damage or improper assembly, including:
- mechanical damage to the optical sensor or a torn flex cable,
- misaligned, improperly seated, or tilted sensor beneath the display,
- dust, debris, or adhesive residue blocking the optical path,
- low-grade or incompatible replacement screen (e.g. missing or defective optical window),
- damaged FPC connector or motherboard power management fault,
- no service routine available for the specific model or firmware revision.
In these situations, resolving the issue requires extended hardware diagnostics, opening the device, or correcting the display assembly, which is quoted separately.
How Much Does Calibration Cost?
Pricing for the fingerprint sensor calibration service is clear and transparent:
- 80 PLN - successfully completed calibration (full routine, successful fingerprint registration, and verification),
- 50 PLN - performed testing and calibration attempt that could not succeed due to non-calibration factors (such as a screen defect or hardware sensor fault),
- 0 PLN - if during the initial assessment prior to starting, the model is determined to be unsupported or calibration cannot be attempted.
The 80 PLN price covers the external calibration routine only. Device disassembly, optical chamber cleaning, display re-seating, or part replacements are quoted separately under general phone repair rates.

Which Phone Models Can Be Checked?
Compatibility depends on the specific smartphone model, firmware version, and replacement screen type.
Examples of smartphone brands with under-display optical fingerprint sensors include Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Huawei, and others. Availability is confirmed individually for each model.
Please note: MAdKuM does not provide repair services for Apple / iPhone devices.
What to Provide Before Your Visit?
Before booking an appointment, please get in touch with the following details:
- exact phone brand and model (found in Settings -> About phone),
- who replaced the display (DIY, another repair shop, purchased used),
- whether the fingerprint sensor functioned properly prior to the screen replacement,
- whether the phone currently allows opening the fingerprint setup menu and initiating enrollment,
- short description of the error prompt or sensor behavior.
Service visits are arranged by prior appointment only.

FAQ
A new display panel may have slightly different optical properties, thickness, or light transmission than the factory original. An under-display optical sensor requires recalibrating its exposure parameters using service targets to accurately read fingerprints through the new glass.
No. Some smartphone models do not require a calibration routine or perform automatic self-calibration upon boot. The necessity depends on sensor design, display panel type, and manufacturer firmware.
Not every model and software version is supported by available service procedures. I confirm feasibility individually once you provide the exact phone model number.
A successfully completed calibration costs 80 PLN. If testing and a calibration attempt are performed but fail due to an underlying hardware issue or screen defect, the fee is 50 PLN. The initial check before starting is free (0 PLN).
If calibration does not succeed, the cause is typically assembly misalignment, optical contamination, low-quality replacement glass, or a hardware sensor fault. In that case, I can offer extended hardware diagnostics requiring device disassembly.
No. The standard optical calibration procedure is performed externally on the assembled phone using dedicated calibration targets and service diagnostics. The phone is not opened.
