Is the Battery Always the Cause?
Not necessarily. Rapid battery drain can be caused by a failing battery, but also by system software bugs, background applications, motherboard short circuits, a damaged charging port, or a faulty charger.
Before replacing the battery, I assess the symptoms and check the phone model. If the device was exposed to liquids or dropped heavily, there is a higher risk of motherboard power circuit faults.
A Swollen Battery is a Warning Sign
If you notice your back cover or screen rising, do not press down on it or continue using the phone. A swollen lithium battery is unstable and can puncture, leading to smoke or fire. It can also physically crush the display or logic board.
Do not bend, puncture, or try to peel off a swollen battery with metal tools. Professional removal with proper adhesive softeners is required.
