Electronics soldering requires proper preparation, the right equipment, and an assessment of the board's condition. At MAdKuM, I perform precise soldering tasks, especially where microscope work and careful pad handling are necessary.
The best cases are those where it is known which component needs replacement, reflowing, or reconstruction. For complex logic board issues, diagnostics are available, but not every device is cost-effective to repair.
Precise SMD Component Soldering and Replacement Under a Microscope
At MAdKuM, I carry out precise SMD soldering and component replacement under a service microscope with up to 90x magnification. Operations are carried out with a temperature-controlled hot-air station, a T12 cartridge soldering iron with micro tips, and hot tweezers that allow efficient removal of two-terminal SMD components while minimizing heat impact on neighbouring parts.
Scope of SMD soldering includes:
- replacement of damaged ceramic capacitors (MLCC), resistors, and SMD inductors,
- replacement of diodes, transistors, and power MOSFETs in supply rails,
- soldering and replacement of selected ICs with accessible lead pins (SOIC, TSSOP, QFP, etc.),
- solder bridge removal and pad cleaning with desoldering wick,
- reconstruction of damaged pads under SMD components and reinforcement with UV solder mask.
Service boundaries: I accept SMD repairs with a reasonably definable scope, such as an indicated faulty component, burned connector, torn pad, or localized shorted circuit area. MAdKuM does not perform BGA chip reballing or unlimited reverse engineering on multi-layer logic boards with unknown history.
Repair of Electronic Boards and PCB Modules
Many electronic device breakdowns do not require purchasing an expensive replacement module or an entire logic board. At MAdKuM, I undertake component-level PCB repairs within a controlled scope of soldering and assembly work.
Scope of electronic board repair includes:
- replacement of identified or reasonably locatable faulty SMD and THT components (capacitors, resistors, diodes, transistors, relays),
- replacement of damaged power sockets, data ports, and cable connectors,
- reflowing cold solder joints and repairing micro-cracks on boards exposed to thermal cycling or vibration,
- repairing localized laminate damage and reconditioning designated board areas,
- reconstruction of torn solder pads and broken copper traces.
Device qualification: Small modules and circuit boards are qualified individually based on model, symptoms, and macro photos. I accept disassembled consumer electronics modules, doorphone controllers, audio PCBs, and power supply boards upon prior agreement.
Diagnostic principles: An initial assessment based on description and macro photos before disassembly is free (0 PLN). Where a suspected short circuit or fault requires opening the unit, taking electrical measurements, or tracing an affected board area, extended diagnostics may apply (from 150 PLN). Accepting such cases and proceeding with further work depends on technical and economic viability. I perform basic power rail, continuity, and localized board measurements using a digital multimeter, bench power supply, P2 Pro thermal camera, and service microscope. Finding every fault cannot be guaranteed.
Tip: For lower-cost devices, always compare expected repair costs against the market value of a working replacement unit before commissioning diagnostics.
Cost Assessment - Bare PCB or Complete Device?
The cost of repair at MAdKuM reflects the actual labour involved. Bringing in just the pre-disassembled circuit board (or module) allows work to begin immediately under the microscope without spending time on opening the housing, unhooking delicate flex cables, and reassembling the unit.
Supplying just the board reduces labour overhead, but does not mean a single flat fee for every repair. Examples from our standard labour price list:
- simple wire, pin, or point soldering: from 100 PLN,
- connector replacement on a supplied PCB: from 100 PLN,
- SMD component replacement: from 100 PLN,
- pad or copper trace reconstruction: from 200 PLN,
- complex microscope SMD work in dense layout: from 300 PLN.
When a complete device is delivered, the quote also accounts for the time and risk of careful disassembly, internal board access, reassembly, and functional testing (e.g. connector replacement in a complete device from 200 PLN, switch replacement from 180 PLN, cold joint repair in a device from 200 PLN).
Replacement parts: Component costs are quoted separately depending on market availability. Customers can supply their own components after prior verification of part compatibility.

PCB Pad Reconstruction and Trace Repair
If a connector, jack, or component was torn off together with the copper pads, simple soldering of the new part is not enough. In these cases, it is necessary to reconstruct the PCB pads, run jumper wires to the nearest connection points, or repair broken board traces. I also handle scratched, cut, or corroded copper traces caused by slipping tools during disassembly or previous repair attempts.
This type of repair is time-consuming and carries higher risk. The final price depends on the extent of the damage, the size of the traces, and whether there are hidden inner-layer board faults.
Cold Joints and Intermittent Connections
Symptoms of cold solder joints are often intermittent: the device works only when pressed, disconnects when the cable moves, or reacts to temperature changes. I provide reflowing and resoldering of weak joints to restore stable electrical contact.

Small electronics, modules, and circuit boards can be shipped to our workshop via parcel locker or courier after prior arrangement and photo evaluation. When shipping a bare PCB, it is recommended to use antistatic protection if available and a rigid outer box to protect the board mechanically.
